Welcome to the NANAAS home page
The National Academy of Native American Arts Society, LLC, hereby know as the NANAAS, is organized under the laws of Virginia as a non-stock Limited Liability Corporation with members. This organization is open and available for membership to all ages, races, and nationalities who support and recognize the Native American art forms, music and history.
 
The primary purposes of the NANAAS is to:
Advance the arts and history of Native American's and those supporting Native American Artists, and to foster creative leadership in all Native American arts, including but not limited to all artistic fields of recordings, films, videos, paintings, spoken word, crafts and designs.

To also recognize outstanding creative achievement in the Native American cultural arts by conferring annual awards of merit upon those deemed to be most worthy by their peers;

To establish and maintain a library or libraries, including but not limited to Native American cultural recordings, films, videos, paintings, spoken word, crafts and designs for reference and educational purposes;

- To foster and engage in study and research relating to the culture of Native American's.

- To create the world’s leading resource for including but not limited to contemporary and traditional Native American recordings, films, videos, paintings, spoken word, crafts and designs.

- To honor including but not limited to Native American recordings, films, videos, paintings, spoken word, crafts and designs regardless of tribal status, race, age or nationality.

- To engage in any other activities that may help the NANAAS accomplish the foregoing purposes, including, but not limited to, making arrangements and commitments in connection with any broadcast, telecast, webcast or other form of public or private showing of awards being conferred or any other activity of  the NANAA or NANAAS;

- To also making arrangements and commitments in connection with the sponsorship of any activities of the NANAAS and establishing scholarships, fellowships or other awards in its own name, or in conjunction with, or by contribution to, any recognized university, college or other institution of higher learning or professional training, including, but not limited to, the payment of funds, either by way of grant or gift, or by loan (with or without interest or any other charge), to talented individuals deemed deserving of assistance or encouragement; and supporting courses of study of the Native American Arts and History in recognized universities, colleges or other institutions of higher learning or professional training.

The NANAAS supports all Native American arts and crafts (designed and or manufactured) including all listed categories up for nominations. All aforementioned categories under consideration by the NANAAS are open to Native and non-Native alike who support the Native culture, arts and history. At the same time the NANAAS recognizes the laws supporting “authentically claimed” Native arts and crafts.
 
THEREFORE;
The NANAAS supports the Native American Arts and Craft Act of 1990.  All arts and crafts products, displayed, for sale or exhibited during any and all award shows will comply with The U.S. Department of Interior’s Indian Arts and Crafts A ct of 1990 (P.L. 101-644) including any and all updated amendments. The law covers all Indian and Indian-style traditional and contemporary arts and crafts produced after 1935.
